PREGNANCY

Confirming Your Pregnancy

Testing

Our medical staff will provide a medical-grade urine-based pregnancy test for you to take. If your pregnancy test is positive, you can schedule a date for an ultrasound to confirm the due date, assess risks, and determine viability.

Ultrasounds & Exams

First-trimester ultrasounds are available after we have confirmed your pregnancy. Appointments are typically 30 minutes long, and you may bring a support person. This ultrasound confirms the gestational age, viability, and fetal heartbeat. You will also receive images and have time to ask questions about prenatal care.

Our Nurse Practitioners provide prenatal care exams for low-risk pregnancies to those with Medi-Cal, Partnership, and No Insurance. Our trained medical staff will meet with you throughout your pregnancy to discuss your baby's development, rule out complications, and provide nutritional and educational suggestions to prepare you for a happy, healthy delivery.

Pregnancy Support

Options Counseling

If you want to feel confident, know all your options first. Our staff can help prepare you with the knowledge you need to make the right decision.

Your options:

  • Parenting: We offer coaching, support groups, and educational and material resources for women preparing for a newborn, as well as various forms of support through the child's first year of life.

  • Adoption: If you think adoption might be right, we can connect you with an agency in your area. Every year, agencies provide mutually beneficial solutions to the birth mother and families looking to welcome a new baby into their homes.

  • Abortion: We don’t perform, refer, (or profit from) any abortion procedures. Our team is an excellent source of information and resources for a healthy pregnancy.

Education & Information

Life Skills

If you don't feel like you know enough, earn enough, or are ready, you can sigh in relief. None of us know it all!

Still, it can be a huge help to talk to other moms (and dads) to learn tips and tricks. Our clinical staff can help you prepare to be the best parents you can be by providing you with hands-on training, education, and resources.

Parenting

We offer prenatal care, coaching, support groups, and educational and material resources for women preparing for a newborn.  We also provide various forms of support through the child's first year of life.

We have two programs to make sure you're taken care of from the moment you know you're pregnant through to your child's first birthday:

  • Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program (CPSP): We recommend that pregnant women begin this medical program as soon as they realize they're pregnant and continue until 60 days after giving birth. A licensed nurse or nurse practitioner conducts this program and addresses in-depth nutritional, psychological, social, and health education topics.

  • Life Program:  For pregnant women from conception to the baby's first birthday. Conducted by a peer counselor, this program offers one-on-one and group classes, educational videos, counseling, and material goods. Topics range from childbirth to car seat safety to bringing home a new baby and infant care.

Birth Control

While we do not provide free condoms or birth control prescriptions, we can educate you on various options, including a free and natural birth control method called natural family planning. To learn more, make an appointment with our medical staff.

Knowing which option is right for you can be challenging, with more birth control options available now more than ever. Even once you've decided, improper use can make that pill, condom, or other method useless.

Get the expert's perspective. Learn about the benefits and risks of each method, and make sure you know how (and when) to use them to minimize your risk.

PREGNANCY FAQs

  • The signs and symptoms of pregnancy differ for everyone, but the first thing to watch for is a missed period. Other signs can include nausea (especially in the morning), tiredness/fatigue, tender breasts, frequent urination, and changes in appetite. If you suspect you might be pregnant, schedule a free appointment with us - we'll administer a pregnancy test and discuss some options for your next steps.

  • Whether planned or unplanned, pregnancy is a lot to take in. The first step is to find someone you trust to support and encourage you through the process. Next, we recommend scheduling an appointment to confirm your pregnancy, assess potential risks, and understand your options based on several factors, including how far along you are. Whether you come alone or with your chosen supporter, our caring staff can help guide you through the process and provide the information you need.

  • Once your pregnancy is confirmed at a doctor's office, determine how far along you are; you may have three and receive an ultrasound to options: Parenting, Adoption, or Abortion.

  • Early prenatal care is critical because it helps keep you and your baby healthy during your pregnancy. Your medical provider will monitor the baby's development, do testing to detect or prevent problems, and ensure you are as safe and healthy as possible for your pregnancy.

  • Seek medical attention right away if you are pregnant and experience any of the following:

    -Vaginal bleeding

    -Abdominal pain

    -Burning or painful urination

-Severe nausea/vomiting lasting more than 24 hours

    -Fever of 100.4 or higher

-Severe constant headaches with dizziness or vision changes

-Sudden gush or leaking of fluid from the vagina

    -Signs of labor

  • DOs:

DO cut out all alcohol, smoking or vaping marijuana, or other drugs

DO limit your exposure to chemicals, including dry-cleaning agents and BPA (found in some plastics and often used as a lining in canned foods)

DO talk to your doctor about any medications you are taking

DO consume plenty of Folic Acid and Vitamin D.

    DON’Ts:

DON’T consume raw foods, certain types of fish or seafood that may contain heavy metals

DON’T handle harsh cleaners (like oven cleaner), cat litter, or pesticides.

DON’T over-exert yourself. Keep your exercise light, and don’t lift heavy objects.

DON’T go on a diet. Ensure you consume a well-balanced diet and limit artificial sweeteners like aspartame.
